Gray Death Legion gets suckered. They fulfill a contract to get a world of their own as a base. Only it turns out the world has a secret Lost Library and Com Star [a supposedly neutral techno-religious group, which acts like a secret 6th Great House] wants that library. So lots of backstabbing, betrayals and fighting. The Legion survives, barely.

Lots of people die, we’re betrayed, nobody loves us, whahhh, whahhh, whahhh.

If you couldn’t tell, I didn’t really enjoy this book. and I’m sick of Grayson pulling a magic rabbit out of his backside to save the day, EVERY SINGLE BOOK!

I’m really hoping Stackpole’s Mechwarrior books rekindle my interest, or I’m done with this series.

Gray Death Legion is hired by a planet to help throw off a Great House’s yoke. Lots of “then he fired his PPC, then the massive 125mm chaingun until the…” blah blah blah. These are interesting little war stories, but nothing that I ever would get really excited about.

Guns, guts and glory. This series is like bread. You’ll read it when there isn’t much else on your reading plate. So far the Gray Death Legion books are all in the same vein and I suspect they’ll continue to be.

a young mechwarrior survives a surprise attack on a back edge world and leads the fight to take it back, so as to give his clan a chance to survive. Looks to be the start of a sub-series about this particular branch of merc mechwarriors.
