Title: Blackwing
Series: Raven’s Mark #1
Author: Ed McDonald
Rating: 1 of 5 Stars
Genre: Fantasy
Pages: 325/120
Words: 119K/40K

Synopsis:

DNF’d at approximately the 30% mark.

My Thoughts:

Besides the profanity I mentioned in my previous Currently Reading & Quote post, McDonald also crossed one of the lines for what I’ll not accept in my entertainment reading. As such, I am done with this book, this series and this author.

Rating: 1 out of 5.

Homosexuality. That is one of the few things I’ll not just blithely accept in my entertainment reading. There are a handful of other issues that get the same treatment, but that one is the one that I have to deal with most of the time from modern authors.

Im surprised it even got a 1 out of 5 mate. I have nothing against people that lean towards same sex relations, but that doesnt mean i want to read about it either.

This was one of my favorite series of the new century (on the shortlist with The Faithful and the Fallen). But, don’t worry, I won’t hold your poor taste against you.

I just finished Joe Abercrombie’s first book, and he is kind of held up as the exemplar of grimdark, but this series was MUCH darker, to be honest.

  5. I’m just trying to make sense of the cover, since that’s how I judge a book these days. A big black bird and someone haveing problems with their rainwear. Do either of these things occur in the bit you read?

  6. I agree, there’s no point reading something that has issues that you don’t like reading about. It’s a waste of your time and mental energy!

  8. […] Blackwing by Ed McDonald is my latest DNF. I didn’t finish it because of some of the subject matter. […]
