MTG: Lands Matter – The Ecology of Magic

Magic_card_backIt has been a while since I’ve done a Magic the Gathering Deck List post.  I just looked and my last one was back in April of last year.  So time to haul out the cards and list out a custom built deck.

This is a Lands Matter deck, and while my post title is jokingly subtitled, the mana base for any deck is very important. For this one though, it matters even more.  The point of the deck is to pull shenanigans with lands entering the battlefield and either get Landfall triggers from your cards on the battlefield or amass a large number of lands and burn your opponents to death. I got the general idea from the Commander 2018 precon, which was a disappointment no matter how you sliced it. I’ve also got a secondary “play lands from your graveyard” theme going on as well.

So without further ado, here’s my deck list with some of the more interesting cards in pictures.

These posts fill an itch for me that sometimes I don’t even know I have. I’m a very casual player anyway so I’m lucky if I play 2-3 times a month. Now throw in the fact that Corona-chan has pretty much shut down playing in real life and I wonder what I’m doing by posting things like this.

Then I look at the pictures too and am like “Oh yeah, that is some good stuff right there!”

  3. This sure does make me miss card games hahah

Have you heard about the Russo brothers working on the animated MTG show which could potentially spin-off into a live-action series? 😮

I’ve heard a lot of rumor about the animated show. We’ll see what actually happens. Considering the more recent business decisions Hasbro has taken (they’re the parent company of Wizards of the Coast) I’m very hesitant to think that this venture will succeed. It is one time I’d be glad to be very wrong…

Have you seen the MTG game on mobile? Also would you be willing to explain how, on the first few cards, the +2 or -11 thing works? Never even seen these cards. Always love the artwork

I don’t believe there is an official mobile version of mtg yet. It is strictly paper or the digital version called Arena that can be played on a computer.

There have been older standalone digital games called Duels of the Planeswalkers that were “kind of magic”. MTG Arena is the what the company is focusing on now though.

Those cards with the + and -. If you look at the card, you’ll see in the lower right hand corner they have a number (Lord Windgrace has a 5, for example). Those are called “Loyalty” and the + and – numbers are abilities that add to or subtract from their loyalty. You can’t use an ability that would subtract more loyalty than they have though. So in the case of Lord Windgrace, you’d have to use his +2 ability three times before he would have 11 loyalty, thus allowing you to use his -11 ability. If a planeswalker loyalty goes to 0, you put the card in your graveyard. And you can only use one ability per turn.
      Kind of complicated 🙂

  5. I’ve never played this kind of games, but the pictures on these cards are both imaginative and fascinating… 🙂
