I saw this tag over at Bookforager and she did a fantastic job of filling this tag out. I’d like to thank her for introducing me to this tag.
1) GREED
What is the most expensive book you own? Which is the least expensive?
The most expensive is a hardcover, first edition, signed copy of Icerigger by Alan Dean Foster. Used copies on Amazon are now running close to $400. I didn’t pay that much but I paid enough 😀
The least expensive? Who knows. I’ve got a lot of books I got as freebies or something, so $0?
2) GLUTTONY
What book or books have you shamelessly devoured many times?
The Hobbit or Dune take that without even trying. Well, maybe Way-Farer. So since I’m talking about Gluttony, why not add 3 books that I’ve read the most times?
3) LUST
What attributes do you find most attractive in your characters?
NOT BEING STUPID IDIOTS. Gahhh, I don’t know how to say this even more. I HATE when authors make their characters stupid or do stupid things simply because the author is too fething lazy, stupid or talentless to actually write a good character. Hmm, maybe this should have gone in the Wrath category. certainly got me steamed up enough!
4) ENVY
What books would you most like to receive as a gift?
Knight of Stars by Tom Lloyd. It’s his latest God Fragments book and I want to read it, now. But I’m not paying $10 for an ebook and buying paper books is almost at a standstill these days with our limited room.
5) PRIDE
What book or books do you bring up when you want to sound like an intellectual reader?
Me, be a snob? That is SO easy. You don’t even have to name drop a book. Just make the tone of your voice drip with disgust and complete dismissal when discussing the genre you despise. But to play along….
War and Peace or any book by most of the Russians actually. Dropping names like Gogol, Dostoyevsky and then adding something like “Yes, they were fine authors” is usually enough to overawe some rube online for the first time since coming off the turnip farm. Just make sure you actually know what you’re talking about in case you run into another fan. There is no worse faux pas than talking about Gogol then getting caught out that you’ve never actually read Gogol.
6) SLOTH
What book or series have you neglected out of sheer laziness?
Shaman King. Went a whole month not reading that manga. Thankfully, I’m taking care of that particular issue this month (as you know if you’re following me).
7) WRATH
What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?
Shouldn’t that be a hate/hate relationship since we’re talking about Wrath, with a capital W? Thankfully, I hate almost all authors, just on general principal, so there is no love to any relationship.
But to pick an author that I especially hate, hmmmmm, I’ll have to think for a couple of seconds. Well, until I read the Holy Sister trilogy and my mind is changed, probably Mark Lawrence. His Prince of Thorns has scarred me and Jorg has sickened in my mind like a cancerous blot. Lawrence has his legions of supporters but I’m not amongst them.
Fun post! I particularly agree with what you said under “lust”. I haven’t yet read anything by Mark Lawrence, but I do have Prince of Thorns on my Kindle so I’ll try it eventually. My impression has been that it’s something I’ll probably like, but I’ve read mixed opinions.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Prince of thorns absolutely destroyed my interest in Lawrence and it has taken until the Holy Sister trilogy for me to be willing to even try him again. I’m pretty conflicted so I can’t even say “I hope you like him”.
As for the lust category, it really seems to me that more YA books use this as a plot device simply because the author is a talentless hack. Makes me wonder if the books I read as teenager also had stupid characters that I just didn’t realize were stupid? Nahhh…..

I’ve just finished an audio re-read of Dune, as good as always 🙂 I’ll probably go for books 2 and 3, these I haven’t re-read for a decade or more… the rest of the series, contrary to what some people say, do not exist.

Nice! I like the idea of just reading the original trilogy and calling that good. Next time I get a hankering for Dune, I’m going to try that and see how it works storywise.
I’d also like to try Dune as an audio book. Who was the narrator for the edition you listened to?
LikeLiked by 1 person
It was a Macmillan Audio multi-voice version, important characters had dedicated voice actors, quite good 🙂

Cool. My only audio experiences so far have been single narrator ones.

Honestly, I just need to be patient. Once the kindle price drops to match the first 2 books, I’ll be snatching it up. Definitely worth $5 😀

This was so fun to read! 😍 AND DUNE🙆 so happy to see it in there. I might do this tag later on 😂

I’m a huge proponent of Dune 🙂
I rarely do tags because most of the time they’re written from the perspective of a hormone ridden, angsty teenager, or an adult who never left off that lifestyle and actually grown up. So when I can get one that leaves all of that behind, I jump on them.
Good luck if you do 🙂

Hahaahah the whole bit on Pride made me laugh. I’ll need to finally read War and Peace to say so. For the time being, I always say Crime and Punishment is my all-time favourite novel (not to be snob or anything but because it really is amazing, especially considering what I study and all)! Great post! 😀

Thanks. Just don’t ask me about Gogol though 😉
I did read War & Peace so long ago that I really need to do a re-read. I’ve got a bunch of Russian works lined up for when I finish Dickens, so at least I know I’ll be doing that re-read in the next 5 years 😀

On a side note, please don’t ever feel that you “have” to read/comment on all the posts. I really do appreciate it but don’t want it to ever be a burden. You’ve got limited time and I understand that 🙂

Hahahah you’ve told me that before dude! 😀 Don’t worry about it, I have fun reading your stuff and I doubt it’ll ever change unless you suddenly decide you’re all about erotica and ponies… 😛

Well, I must be getting senile in my old age 😀
Oh man, that sounds like that episode of Bones where a crime gets committed at a farm where guys pay to pretend to be ponies and have ladies take care of them. It was an extremely disturbing episode.

Cool tag! Icerigger!! I remember that series- I think I read it years ago? Mission to Moulokin was the second one? That just popped in my head haha- the things we remember!
I agree about dumb characters. If something seems like common sense to me and the author has the character be needlessly obtuse I just get annoyed.
LOL about #5.

You are correct! Mission to Moulokin was the second one. It is odd what we remember 🙂
I had fun with this, as can be told by the likes of Pride 🙂

I also hate characters that are too stupid to live! I DNFed Prince of Thorns after a couple of chapters-I hated the characters!

Yeah, Prince of Thorns is now my negative Gold Standard for any other books with characters I don’t like.

Ahh! I’m so glad you did this! 🙂 And I can’t believe I didn’t think of Dune when I was writing my own responses, have definitely read that a fair few times and it’s certainly one of my favourite books (although I struggled with the books that followed).
And I’m currently enjoying your working through Shaman King! 🙂

Well, I am glad one of us is enjoying the shaman king series 😉
I like the occasional tag. It kind of spruces the blog up. But one every 2-3 months is about my limit.

Hahaha, forget dreamy eyes and dimples, not being a stupid idiot of a character is definitely the attribute that gets me hot over all other traits. 😀

You’d think that I shouldn’t have to write that kind of thing, but noooo….

Really like that tag! Not much surprising here (especially Lust, I so agree with you there!), though I half expected to see your wrath directed toward authors such as Steinbeck or Faulkner… 😀
LikeLiked by 1 person
Thankfully, I stopped reading Steinbeck before I got a full on case of “The Hates”. And I’ve never read Faulkner. Maybe someday 🙂
It was fun to do. A “tag” every once in a while is a good palate cleanser for the blog.

That’s very true, we are actually eyeing this tag for our blog as well, now that Piotrek is back from vacation 😉
Truth be told, Faulkner’s Absalom, Absalom is one of my all-time favorites 😀 And I also was deeply impressed by his A Fable and The Sound and the Fury. I really like Steinbeck’s Tortilla Flat, it’s a great little novel and totally not like Of Mice and Men 😉

Sorry, there is no redemption for Steinbeck.
I’d definitely like to see you guys do this tag 🙂

Hate is such a heavy word to read for me seeing as you are such a nice person… i prefer dislike with extreme prejudice. This tag looks like a lit of fun. I still need to get to reading dune😖

Dislike, with Extreme Prejudice!….The Movie!
I like it 😀

Phhh, I can turn almost anything into a movie. Hollywood does it all the time and spends millions of dollars, so I’m SURE I can do it, on the cheap 😀

Would love to see this movie

I envision it as a buddy movie. And they get hurt by the mob and one has 2 broken arms and the other has 2 broken legs. So they drive around in a special van, in casts, and shoot all the drug dealers.
Guaranteed smash hit 😀

This is an interesting post. I don’t know how I would answer most of them. My sin is book gluttony. I hoard books by the hundreds. As far as pride goes I have the opposite problem. I really like Tolstoy and Dostoevsky but I don’t share it unless I know the other person also likes them. Otherwise you get the looks of accusation that you’re being a snob. I’m sensitive about that.
But I do really hate books that create a plot out of the character(s) doing something obviously stupid. It ruins the story for me, knowing that an ounce of common sense would have solved the problem in the first chapter.

I was very thankful for the little prompts, as I wouldn’t have been able to easily list them either with just the straight up “sin” listed.
Common sense is something that seems to be lacking in almost as many authors as in the characters they create 😦

Yeah easily the hobbit for me too. hahaha too true about stupid characters- it always comes across as lazy writing to me (especially since the character will often be described by the writer as smart and then proceed to make them do *all the stupid things*- I hate to use the cliché “show don’t tell”, but seriously, show don’t tell and also don’t show your characters being idiots) (phew I felt pretty strongly about that). oooh you changed your mind about Lawrence?! I thought that would be more up your street! I’m excited to hear your thoughts on the series 😀

oh sorry, totally jumped the gun there, thought you’d read it- but I am curious about your thoughts about it.
I thought I was also commenting when I was more awake- turns out not!

No, but I am planning on it. I’ll be reserving the trilogy at the library and going from there.
