The Seven Deadly Book Sins (Tag)

I saw this tag over at Bookforager and she did a fantastic job of filling this tag out. I’d like to thank her for introducing me to this tag.

 

1)  GREED

What is the most expensive book you own? Which is the least expensive?

The most expensive is a hardcover, first edition, signed copy of Icerigger by Alan Dean Foster. Used copies on Amazon are now running close to $400. I didn’t pay that much but I paid enough 😀

The least expensive? Who knows. I’ve got a lot of books I got as freebies or something, so $0?

 

2) GLUTTONY

What book or books have you shamelessly devoured many times?

The Hobbit or Dune take that without even trying. Well, maybe Way-Farer. So since I’m talking about Gluttony, why not add 3 books that I’ve read the most times?

 

3) LUST

What attributes do you find most attractive in your characters?

NOT BEING STUPID IDIOTS. Gahhh, I don’t know how to say this even more. I HATE when authors make their characters stupid or do stupid things simply because the author is too fething lazy, stupid or talentless to actually write a good character.  Hmm, maybe this should have gone in the Wrath category. certainly got me steamed up enough!

 

4) ENVY

What books would you most like to receive as a gift?

Knight of Stars by Tom Lloyd. It’s his latest God Fragments book and I want to read it, now. But I’m not paying $10 for an ebook and buying paper books is almost at a standstill these days with our limited room.

 

5) PRIDE

What book or books do you bring up when you want to sound like an intellectual reader?

Me, be a snob? That is SO easy. You don’t even have to name drop a book. Just make the tone of your voice drip with disgust and complete dismissal when discussing the genre you despise.  But to play along….

War and Peace or any book by most of the Russians actually.  Dropping names like Gogol, Dostoyevsky and then adding something like “Yes, they were fine authors” is usually enough to overawe some rube online for the first time since coming off the turnip farm. Just make sure you actually know what you’re talking about in case you run into another fan.  There is no worse faux pas than talking about Gogol then getting caught out that you’ve never actually read Gogol.

 

6) SLOTH

What book or series have you neglected out of sheer laziness?

Shaman King. Went a whole month not reading that manga. Thankfully, I’m taking care of that particular issue this month (as you know if you’re following me).

 

7) WRATH

What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

Shouldn’t that be a hate/hate relationship since we’re talking about Wrath, with a capital W? Thankfully, I hate almost all authors, just on general principal, so there is no love to any relationship.

But to pick an author that I especially hate, hmmmmm, I’ll have to think for a couple of seconds. Well, until I read the Holy Sister trilogy and my mind is changed, probably Mark Lawrence.  His Prince of Thorns has scarred me and Jorg has sickened in my mind like a cancerous blot. Lawrence has his legions of supporters but I’m not amongst them.
