A Side Project

side project

Back in April I ran across this post about 100 Books. I’ve finally started working on my own version, which I’ve divided into books I hate and books I love. I’ll be linking each title to it’s review here on wordpress.  As such, I’ll be having to create whole new posts for about half the books as they were simply in my monthly posts from years ago.

What this means is that those of you who are subscribed to get an email every time I put up a new post will be getting a small flood of emails over the next few weeks. You might have experienced it already this past weekend.  Thankfully, this still advances my overall Site Update plans, so I don’t feel this is taking away from that project. That is already going slow enough, sigh.

Just wanted to give you all the heads up. Once the Project is done, I plan on making the list one of the static pages here on WP, along with “About”, “Star Ratings” and “Review Policy”.

Carry on.

  1. Great news! I can’t wait to see the completed list. Many thanks for the link back.

Wait, so is this basically a Top 100 list? Or is there actual book liquidation involved?

Great idea! (both the original and your twist). Small flood? Didn’t notice any–ohhhh, you mean over there there my Daily Agenda is sinking beneath the waves?

Well, any time I see more than 3 posts in a day from a person I consider it a flood. Same with emails. So when I backdate the posts the WP feed isn’t clogged up but all those who get an email get a bunch of emails in just a couple of days.
It would bother me so I’m trying to let them know so it doesn’t bother them.

  4. So basically an Index post? That is a fabulous idea!

Man! I love “special projects”. Keep them coming…I’m in the middle of one myself, but I’ll die before I can complete it…I think I’ve told you about it.

  6. You’ve been very busy while I’ve been gone! I like the idea of the 100 Books but it also terrifies me as I have so many unfinished lists already. As for reconstruction, I’ve been mulling over moving my blog to a self-hosted blog. However I think people who have done that have lost some of the WordPress and/or Blogger community that makes book blogging so enjoyable. In any case, I’m still thinking. Have fun with your renos and projects!

Yeah, lots of blog’y things to do 🙂
If I ever make the move to a dot com, I’ll probably just keep using wordpress.com to host stuff so I don’t have to worry about losing people. I’ve experienced several people making the move and there is always an issue and half the time they aren’t competent on a technical side to deal directly with it, so I end up not following them. So I understand that particular concern.

Thankfully, this 100 list works right into my “get every review into its own post” idea, just not quite as neatly as doing it month by month starting in 2000. Ahh well, lots of years to deal with that 😀

Thanks for stopping by. Considering everything going on I figured you’d pretty much given up on blogging but just hadn’t made it official yet…

      • No! Never give up! But I’ve been thrown some unexpected curve balls lately and it’s been difficult trying to find “normal” so it’s also affected my reading. But life goes on so I have hopes of getting some sort of consistency back. If I have to do updates and some Top Ten Tuesdays for awhile that’s okay and hopefully the reviews will start again. It’s nice to be able to read about others who have it together, lol!

Yeah, well, “together” is pretty relative that is for sure.
January through March was a tough time for us. Reviews didn’t suffer but my interaction dropped to almost zero. That’s how I measure things and what I like about blogging, ie, comments back and forth like this.

Wow, that’s an ambitious project! I don’t know if I could come up with a list of just 100 books. Hmm. Worth a thought, though.

As in you have too many to narrow it down to 100, or not enough?

Thankfully, I’ve got about 3000+ to choose from, so I just trauled through my calibre library and looked at all the 1/2 to 1 star books and all the 4 1/2 and 5 star books and voila, there I was 🙂

Too many. I’m sure I could narrow it down, but toward the end I’m guessing I’d end up feeling guilty about including some “fun fluff books” when other “important” books weren’t being added.

Ahhh, see, I”m viewing it, and using it, as a “get to know Bookstooge through the books he’s read” kind of thing.
It probably helps that I have an ego the size of a large planet and don’t particularly care that I do 😉

LOL, that makes sense too! That’s what I use my “favorites” shelf on Goodreads for, but as I recall you’re not on Goodreads.

Yep, I left GR back in ’13. I have a favorites tag and I did a “favorites” series of posts last year, but that was just a lot of info for anyone to digest. And I want a new static page as well. Make me feel like I’m “growing” the website and being all corporate and important and stuff 😀

  10. I always enjoy lists like this to really give an idea of that the blogger enjoys and doesn’t like. I’ve often toyed with the idea of doing a top 100 list for my own interest but never seem to get around to it!
