Book Haul … ♪In a Winter♪ Wonderland♪ – Part II

haul

Nothing says post-Christmas, post-New Years like a snowstorm and lots of goodies from Amazon.

Finishing up collecting Zahn’s latest Cobra trilogy.  Right now, I’m collecting more out of a need for completion than any real interest. The original trilogy was pretty good but everything else after hasn’t really grabbed my attention.

Under the Red Hood was a purchase inspired by Lashaan at Bookidote.

Superman: Action Comics: Path of Doom was definitely all Bookwraith’s fault. We’ll see if this is a self-collected storyline or if I need to buy a couple more volumes. I need something to restore my faith in Supes after the debacle that was Doomed.

Spiderman: Homecoming is a movie that I’ve been wanting to watch despite me approaching maximum Super Hero Movie burnout. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I’ll watch it and put up a review. My first movie review for ’18. Oh the joy :-/

  1. I wouldn’t mind some snow now. Tomorrow will be a 41 degree day! 😑

Nice haul! And I love the picture of the snow. Lots of it! I don’t mind not having the snow here myself. It’s better in a picture. ;D

  3. Pouring with rain here. Flooding out on the street as well! Would rather some snow and reading by the fireplace.

I don’t think I can watch another superhero movie for a while. There seem to be so many coming out these days!

Yeah, Disney is over-saturating the market in their typical ham-handed way and it’ll come back to bite them in a couple of years. I hope they suffer immeasurably with tortures beyond imagination.
      But I doubt it 😦

Spider-Man: Homecoming is probably a top-5 modern superhero movie for me. But it is a better MCU movie than it is a Spider-Man movie.

  5. This was definitely a day to curl up with a good book, and forgot the snow and wind outside. Too bad the weather also meant they closed the schools, and so my oldest stayed home and the kids were tearing up the house driving me crazy!

I’m in Malta at the moment – it’s been very blustery but no snow and fairly mild temperatures. I think back home in the UK its been very stormy though. Definitely the weather for sitting under a blanket reading (not like we really needed any excuse really).
I’m a bit of a completest too so I know where you’re coming from.

  10. Spiderman: Homecoming is the best Spiderman yet. Don’t let it sit too long.

  11. Oh rats – I was going to suggest Zahn’s Cobra series to you, but you already know it!! So far I’ve only read Alliance (I think), so I have some work to do on that series yet. Do you like novels for the Original Star Trek series with Kirk and Spock? Several of those are really good…

Yeah, I found Cobra back in the late 80’s, very early 90’s. Some of the foundational books for my teen self 🙂

I’m not a big Star Trek fan actually. I watched Voyager and some of Next Generation and all 3 of the new movies, but overall it just never appealed to me.
Part of it was that I hate Shatner as a person, so even in a movie/tv series it spills over.

      • Ah, I see. I like Kirk a lot as a captain and a person, but Shatner’s never been one of my top favorite actors. Janeway reminded me a lot of Kirk, which is one of the reasons why I always liked her. Have you read any good Voyager novels? All the ones I’ve heard about sound dumb.

Let’s see…Have you ever read The Knights of Cawdor? It’s a part of a fantasy series, but I haven’t read more than that one book. It was good writing, but I was definitely missing some context there.

Oh, that was it! Have you seen Zahn’s Quadrail series? I have a review of three of the books (I only read the other two in the middle of last year) on my blog. I must say, the ending felt a little anticlimactic, but thinking about it, I don’t see how else he could have ended it….

The only Star Trek books I ever read was a crossover 4parter about some aliens that looked like demons and were going to take over the universe or something. It was over 20 years ago though so I can’t even remember which star trek series it crossed over. It might have been 4? Voyager was a part of it I’m pretty sure.

Knights of cawdor is book 4 or 5 of the Loremasters of Elundium series. I read the first 3 and devoured them, once again, back in the 90’s. I just re-read the first 2 a year or two ago and realized I had better leave them alone so my memories stay positive 😀

I actually own the Quadrail series. I tend to agree with you about the ending. It was all pumped up to this super gigantic ultra threat and then, “wheeeee” [like the air coming out of a balloon] it just deflated. That was the beginning of the end of my love affair with Zahn.

  12. Aha – THAT was the name of the series, was it? I HATE forgetting series like that….

Dang, I’m striking out all over the place here! Better quit while I’m ahead. Stay warm!! 🙂

Glad I could be of service 🙂

No worries about striking out. I’ve been heavily reading SFF since 1990, so don’t be surprised 🙂 It’s the modern stuff [ie, 10 years or newer] that I’m not so well read on. Of course, there is so much of it now with indies and publishers trying to monetize places like Goodreads.
      *insert old grumpy man voice*
Back in my day the library only had 3 shelves of SF and I read and liked it, because that was all there was!

  13. Awww yee! So glad to see some comics being bought! Hopefully you’ll enjoy Under the Red Hood and the Superman storyarc. I’m not sure if it’ll be easy to read as a self-contained story though. I think the Rebirth Superman stories follow immediately after the events of the Darkseid War in the New 52 storyline. I haven’t read it so I can’t tell.. Hopefully Bookwraiths had you reassured on that subject though.
